Zawacki Ballet Company

The Zawacki Ballet is a professional ballet company consisting of 15-20 dancers. The dancers exclusively perform the original works of its founder-mentor Edward Zawacki.

Long Island’s most acclaimed professional dance center brings into focus two artists is residence. Mr. and Mrs. Zawacki hail from an extensive background.

Lorna Yelavich and Edward Zawacki are both products of George Balanchine’s School of American Ballet, the official school of the New York City Ballet, as well as many other celebrated teachers from both American Ballet Theater and Joffrey Ballet.

Their Credits include; the Harkness Ballet, Radio City Music Hall Ballet, New York City opera Ballet, New Haven Ballet, Greater Bridgeport Ballet, Rondo Dance Theater, Luigi Jazz Dance Company, Ron Forella’s Second Century Dancers, and the Bernhard Ballet.

Edward Zawacki has been seen as a featured modern dancer in the works of Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Kazuko Hirabayashi, Elisabeth Keene, Milton Meyers, Larry Richardson, and Hannah Kahn.

He has danced in and restaged several Broadway musical productions including; Promises Promises, On The Town, West Side Story, South Pacific, Oliver, Candide, and Fiddler On The Roof.

Lorna Zawacki made her debut with former Bolshoi Ballet soloist Igor Plekanov in the Bernhard Ballet’s production of the Black Swan Pas De Deux, staged by artistic director Genia Melikova. The couples rendition of the classic pas de deux was reviewed as being “executed with impressive artistry” by the Darien Review CT.

She has also worked for such prominent choreographers as Peter Gennaro, Michael Peters, Ron Lewis, Hector Zeraspe, and Gemze DeLapp.

She danced with ABT principal dancer Kevin McKenzie at the gala opening of the Wolf Trap Theater for the Performing Arts, and has preformed as a featured dancer in the “Liberace” show at Radio City Music Hall.

Mr. Zawacki, upon premiering his first ballet company, Zawacki and Featured Dancers, at the Hudson Guild Theater NYC, was quoted by Dance Magazine as “a company of seven gorgeous School of American and Joffrey trained dancers, creating an uninterrupted rush of exhilarating motion”. He created ballets for Alvin Ailey principal dancer Sara Yarborough, American Ballet Theater’s Garland Deaderick, Joffrey dancer Katherina Rumpler, and Robert Tracy dancer-author of Balanchine’s Ballerinas, all members of the Zawacki ballet.

Ballerina Karen Kelly of the Elliot Feld, Harkness, Pennsylvania and Hartford Ballet companies joined the Zawacki Ballet as a principal dancer.
